Job Description

Job Summary

The Assistant Superintendent is directly responsible to the Project Superintendent for the proper discharge of his duties.

Responsibilities and Duties

The Assistant Superintendent’s principle duty is to assist the superintendent with the day to day operation on the job site.

To include but not limited to:

  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings
  • Help manage materials stored and inventory control to keep adequate materials on site for work to be performed
  • Checking in materials deliveries accurately, making notes of deficiencies and communicating deficiencies to superintendent and suppliers
  • Promotes job site safety, encourages safe work practices and rectify job site hazards immediately
  • Assist with schedule updates
  • Schedule subcontractors in proper work sequence to maximize efficiency
  • Produce accurate punch list for work completed
  • Prepare, schedule and supervise completion of a final punch list
  • Walk buildings for work being performed properly and installed per the construction documents
  • See that all safety regulations are followed by MC and subcontractor crews. Safety meetings must be adequately attended
  • See that a complete first aid kit is available in case of emergencies
  • Maintain a high standard of quality control at all times
  • See that good housekeeping practices are observed and maintained by both MC crews and subcontractors
  • Ascertain that safety barricades are in proper place and safety lights properly operate
  • Maintain a good relationship with the Project Superintendent, seeking his/her assistance in the scheduling of materials, equipment and subcontractors
  • Keep the progress schedule current.
  • Maintain inventory control over tools and equipment, ascertaining that movable tools are returned to the tool room and all other equipment adequately secured
  • Ascertain that the project is secured each night
  • Assist the subcontractor foreman with any problems
  • Assist superintendent in managing subcontractors
  • Forward all receipts, mail reports and shipping tickets to the office each week
  • Attend construction meetings, and Initiate safety meetings
  • Assist inspectors on their project reviews
  • Maintain good relationships with inspectors, architects, subcontractors and other key people connected with the project
  • Assist the project superintendent to identify and solve problems
  • Utilizes strong organizational skills with regard to all construction activities
  • Displays strong oral communication skills and employ effective listening skills
  • Assist with supervision of all construction activities
  • Direct all field personnel to complete quality work that conforms to original plans and specifications
  • Promotes job site safety, encourages safe work practices and rectify job site hazards immediately
  • Assist with maintaining an organized job site, including the construction office

Qualifications and Skills

Education and Experience

  • 4-yr college degree preferred but not required. Desirable study concentration in construction management
  • 1-3 years of field experience in multi-family construction
  • Experience in scheduling, ordering materials, field supervision, quality control and production of all phases of multi-family construction

  • Analytical with the ability to examine issues from multiple viewpoints
