MECHANICAL PRODUCT ENGINEER

Looking for a highly motivated mechanical engineer to join the WET Product Development and Engineering Team. You will be part of an elite group responsible for conceiving, architecting, designing, and producing exciting new products as well as supporting and improving our world-class current products. Your responsibilities will be extremely dynamic, focused to ensure WET’s products lead in innovating technical capabilities, and in balancing cost, size, power, and performance.

While contributing to the mechanical design of WET’s products, you will work closely with many cross-functional teams, including visual design, industrial design, electrical hardware engineering, manufacturing, tooling, and operations.

Responsibilities include concept generation, concurrent set-based design; product component and module integration; enclosure design; prototype creation and demonstration; manufacturing process and fixture design; and product analysis and testing.

Always seek simplicity and elegance in design 
and have a strong appreciation for aesthetics at both the system and component level of design


REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Physics
  • 5+ years experience in Mechanical Engineering

Fundamentals of engineering:

  • Design, statics/dynamics, strength of materials, material science, fluids, heat transfer
  • Fluency in developing parts and assemblies in SolidWorks (Pro-E also accepted)

Mechanical design skills:

  • Tolerance Stack Up Analysis, Fluid Mechanics, DFMA, cross functional electro-mechanical integration, Fixture Design, Mechanism and Machine Design, GD&T, FEA, CFD and Thermal Analysis and Design.

Product Design:

  • Identifying critical requirements, concept design and evaluation, prototyping, test methods, failure analysis.

Broad range of materials and processes:

  • Metal machining basics (cutter and fixture design rules), plastic injection/compression molding basics, designing with metals, designing with polymers, sheet metal design, material finishing basics
  • Experience with devices in water highly desirable
  • Seal design (a plus)

Key Qualifications

  • High sense of urgency and understanding of how to prioritize in a very dynamic environment
  • Disciplined in following Product Development process as a method to build velocity and quality in product design
  • Innovative thinking, high personal motivation, deep engineering capability
  • Design intelligence: creative problem solving, diligence in finding the best solution for each design challenge, excellent spatial reasoning skills, attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills: both written and verbal communication, ability to communicate design ideas clearly, lead and contribute to brainstorms
