Job Description
Job ResponsibilitiesAs the NIM Engineer, the candidate will support the Communication Network (GCN) to provide secure, survivable communications and network management services between all elements of the system. The position is located at Fort Greely, Alaska (FGA) and is a permanent position (no rotation schedule, housing, or cars offered).
The candidate will have the following job responsibilities:
  • Monitor all mission network traffic
  • Provide the 24-hours a day, 7-days a week, 365-days a year (24/7/365) capability to detect network attacks to GMD network communications
  • Support Information Assurance/Computer Network Defense Analysts for monitoring and analysis. These Analysts may be expected to work any/all shifts (e.g. 24/7/365 rotational coverage or Monday through Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm core-hours) with recall
  • Support monitoring of systems, servers, infrastructure, and software, to include firewalls, proxy servers, and intrusion detection systems
  • Review system and firewall logs and IDS alerts using approved tools and in accordance with operating procedures
  • Isolate and take appropriate action to mitigate security threats
  • Provide analysis and develop reports and metrics that support findings
  • Participate, when needed, with the incident response team in a technical hands-on role to support investigation, response, resolution identification, and root cause analysis
  • Recommend and implement additional controls to prevent future incidents
  • Support other teams by responding to requests for more information and assisting with specific projects
  • Monitor information security intelligence threats and keep apprised of pertinent events, research, and developments
  • Perform software loading when required
  • Provide inputs to the respective operations work schedule
  • Provide weekly cost and status reports
  • Attend daily/weekly/monthly support meetings, as requested
  • Complete from the program general system familiarization, safety, security, and NIM training at the designated facility
QualificationsRequirements:
  • IAM/IAT Level III (CISSP preferred or associate, CISA, GSE, SCNA) certification is required
  • CND Cert (GCIA, SSCP, GCIH, CSIH, CISA, GSNA, CISSP-ISSMP, CISM) A CEH may be acceptable
  • Six (6) years experience with design or operations of telecommunications networks
    Desired Competencies/Experience/Certifications:
  • Vender certifications (i.e., ARCSight, Checkpoint, CCNA or CCSP)
  • Knowledge of DOD Communication Network Architectures and Network Operations Center (NOC) documentation and processes
  • Experience in information security, network administration, or system administration
  • Experience with ArcSight and Snort experience
  • Operating system certifications
    Clearance Requirements:
  • Must already possess a Secret Clearance or higher
  • Ability to obtain Top-Secret is required
