Job Description

Job Skills Required:

  1. Cisco Qualifications Minimum:
  • CCNP-SP (or equivalent)
  • Up to CCIE written exams
  • CCIE – LAB adv
  • 3-5 years working experience with Switches & Routers running IOS, IOS XR, IOS XE, NX-OS (Cisco) , RouterOS (Mikrotik) , EOS (Arista) & OpenWrt(ViBE) in ISP/Telecoms Core Networks.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification.
  • 4.In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP & MPLS (VPN, RSVP, LDP, TE).

    5.Experience with Security Engineering on Core ISP level. (Fortigate)

    1. Advantage: VoIP and SIP Knowledge. VoIP hardware Knowledge
    2. High level Network Design.  (Failover Strategies, QoS, Firewalling etc)
    3. Advantage: Asterisk experience.
    4. VoIP codecs.
    5. Understand General Protocols (UDP, ICMP, SIP, RTP, TCP etc)
    6. Experience with routing protocols. (BGP, OSPF, IS-IS). 3-5 years in ISP core networks.
    7. Advantage: Vibe knowledge would be an advantage.
    8. Working experience with Switching Technologies (VLANs, STP, RSTP, RSPAN, Ether-channel, HSRP/VRRP, Q-in-Q)
    9. Linux experience.


    • Design and deploy High Availability ISP network.
    • Bridge the gap between all the networking Layers.  (Layer1 up to Layer7 services)
    • Advanced debug of customer or equipment problems
    • Advanced Protocol debugging (Routing and application protocols)
    • Equipment set up and solution advice
    • Network equipment setup (Mikrotik/Cisco)
    • Lab testing of CPE equipment required to connect on site
    • Testing of last mile solutions – and high-level fault finding – IP SLA
    • Monitor of complete network-  Observium / IRIS
    • Monitor and graph traffic on all interfaces. 
    • Routing and IP management - Racktables
    • VLAN management
    • POE switch management
    • Monitor QoS to customers
    • VPN setup and support
    • Manage/change Vendor routes
    • Test vendor routes
    • Identify and resolve vendor problems
    • Up skilling 1st line support, 2nd line support, core engineers and technicians by way of documentation and training.
